OH HEY WHAT’S NEW? I’m still sick. It is bullshit. Right now I’m watching Luke Cage season 2 and dicking around with some yarn (I know, “wtf collier, it’s almost July, it is not Yarn Time” — it’s for a gift! not for use right now!) and blowing my nose repeatedly. I’ve consumed enough water for a hydroponic gourd farm and I’ve turned enough tissue into snot-based papier-mâché to build at least three parade floats, and I am OVER IIIIIT. So this weekend is probably going to be fairly chill — or at least that’s the plan.
LAST weekend was, as mentioned previously, super fun. Nola for a show! Woo!
The tunnel going under the top part of Mobile Bay is some SERIOUS sci-fi shit and I love it.
Royal Street is pretty much the antithesis of sci-fi, but that was fun too. Mostly because I reaaaaally missed The Best Frozen Coffee Drink On Earth (an espresso Mochasippi from CC’s which, yes, has the stupidest name imaginable), so much so that I consumed three giant ones in a span of about 16 hours. :D I did not, however, miss the unbearable breezeless baking heat and the accompanying stench of the French Quarter in full summer. :( However, the International House hotel was super cute, so if you’re ever heading that way and want a place that’s right in the CBD / near the French Quarter but is ~contemporary~ and kinda chic and super comfy and doesn’t look like a polyester Victorian time capsule, highly recommended. (And it’s not as spendy as the W and stuff.)
The show itself was pretty damn boss, even though Guided By Voices is not like, “omg my fave band” or anything — tho I’m starting to come around on them. These fuckers played for a SOLID non-stop two-and-a-half hours and it was just GRAND.
Also it was kinda hilarious that it’s like four middle-aged/old dudes and then this one kid lookin’ like a damn Strokes refugee. Seriously, he looked like maybe nineteen, and Bob Pollard is up there rocking his fucking face off and the man is sixty. Yeah, I guess I’m stanning GBV now.

Wheelie-toy SUV! And ghooooost caaaaaar! Thank glob for the iPhone’s magnificent panorama camera feature, which always results in hilarity when used on moving subjects. (Try it on your ceiling fan sometime.)

Watermelon Feta Salad
I recently read a piece on a food blog that claimed the internet didn’t need any more recipes for watermelon feta salad. TOO BAD because I’m providing one. It is easy, it is simple, and it is absolutely perfect for summer, especially on days when your kitchen feels like the mouth of hell and you can’t bear to turn on the stove. We eat it several times per week when watermelons are available.
Ingredients: Watermelon, feta, mint and/or basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, lime zest (optional)
Cube your watermelon into 1-2 inch chunks, crumble or slice up your feta, chop your herbs and make a basic balsamic vinaigrette with the oil, vinegar and honey. Mix it all up in a bowl. Zest a lime on top if you have one and also like citrus zest.
Pickled shallots add a nice tangy element if you’re into that kind of thing.
Of course, anything can be a full meal if you eat enough of it but I generally serve this as a side for grilled protein or if I want a really light meal I make a few soft-boiled eggs with it.
